It’s normal to be nervous and anxious when you first join the gym!

I use this tricks for my clients as a trainer and also for myself - and it’s just 5 small things.

Tip 1 - Know the exercises you need to do!

Know where you need to be, what you want to do and avoid the situation where you walk around aimlessly. Have a list, take it with you and look at it. Why? So you can feel confident on where you have to go and what you need to do.

Tip 2 - Know your whole workout!

Knowing the exercises is what you need to do - the equipment and what to push or pull. But knowing the workout is also knowing what comes before and after! Why? So you can have a bit of a plan B when the machine is taken and you can come back to it later.

Tip 3 - Be Slow & Analyse the Situation

With the gym being hectic - try and avoid the busy time slots. But being slow also means to not rush your workouts and you forget to analyse the situation. Yep! You don’t want to hit someone by accident when you’re playing around with some equipment! Nor do you want to rush doing the exercise and completely forget what you are doing!

Try to go during less busy times until you feel confident so you can take the time to look around, look at the piece of equipment and study it!

Tip 4 - Listen to Music

Dependant on who you are - you might find music distracting!

But that’s okay - I still recommend it for starters so you can keep your nerves down and motivate yourself. Don’t ever be afraid to make mistakes might I say!

Tip 5 - Make Mistakes

It might sound counter-intuitive but making mistakes lets you grow. The degree that you make it might be greater, but you can only use it as an opportunity to learn. Good things that are worth having don’t come easy!

Like I said, I started from the beginning, and I wouldn’t wish for it to change and be different. It lead me to where I am now and what I had learnt. Hopefully - you’ll also enjoy the journey too.
